Jannik Sinner also beats Ben Shelton

Jannik Sinner è qualified for the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon men’s tournament. The South Tyrolean, world number one, defeated in three sets Ben Shelton, feared on the eve because of the great power of his serve (against Lloyd Harris, in the second round, he broke the competition record by serving at 246 km/h).

6-2, 6-4, 7-6(9) the partials in favor of Sinner, who had a fairly easy time in the first two fractions, which lasted 30 and 36 minutes respectively, before a decline that characterized the third set (4-2 for Shelton after six games), a slump from which the blue è was very good at recovering, taking the fraction to the tie-break.

In the decisive mini-game, Sinner è also led 5-2 before suffering a 0-4 partial that gave the first of three set points for Shelton: here too è was effective the reaction of the South Tyrolean, able to respond blow by blow and close on 11-9 taking advantage at the end of a double fault of his opponent.

Sinner, the first Italian to play at Wimbledon as number one in the seeding, defeated in the previous rounds Germany&#39s Yannick Hanfmann, Matteo Berrettini in a spectacular Italian derby and Serbia&#39s Miomir Kecmanovic. The goal, especially in terms of ranking, è to at least match his career-best result on English grass, the 2023 semifinal in which he was defeated by Novak Djokovic.
