Dinamo Sassari, Stefano Sardara explains Pasquini's farewell
The president of Dinamo Sassari, Stefano Sardara, spoke at a press conference in the morning. “We close a complicated season, as indeed was the previous one – he began -We came to terms with numerous injuries that inevitably affected our path, but we still managed to bring home the minimum result: to stay in Serie A. Our goal has always been to compete for the playoffs, both for the men’s team and the Dinamo Women and on wheelchair basketball. You need to bring out all the energy, as Coach Bulleri said so well: the team has to involve, has to entertain. And despite everything, I never had the feeling that this team was giving up”.
“We played for large stretches with out-of-role players and, considering the difficulties, it was a peculiar season– continued the white-blue number one -. But I also consider it a first step to restart. The mood today is higher than ever: in the last two months I have put other professional commitments on the back burner to be even closer to Dinamo. When I look back at the best years, it is because we were all on the ball: when even one cog is missing, something pays off. I never thought, even for a minute, that we could be involved in the salvation struggle, but it is clear that we did not work well enough. I don’t want to assign blame: injuries have weighed, but clearly not enough has been done. Last year, paradoxically, I was more worried than I was this year”.
He then explained Federico Pasquini’s exit: “It represents an important transition for us. We thank him for these 14 years of work, successes, mistakes and victories always shared. He has been a key pawn of Dinamo: it will not be easy to replace him, but it is also the beginning of a new chapter. When I chose him as sports director there was great skepticism, but time has shown that it was a winning choice. Federico is a great basketball connoisseur, but also a keen observer of the city’s social dynamics. And we Sassaresi, like Sardinians in general, are not easy to decipher. We are serene: we know what to do, we are flipping through the dais, and several professionals have proposed themselves. This shows that Sassari still has great appeal. As soon as we have made our choice on the new diesse, we will communicate it”.
“When building a team, the priority is always to try to confirm as many players as possible, because every time you start from scratch you pay a toll in terms of mutual knowledge. Vincini is, in my opinion, the strongest young Italian long player in the league and we will soon see him in the national team. Veronesi has shown that he can stay stably in Serie A. Thomas embodies exactly what we want to be: enthusiasm, drive, Dinamo spirit. The truth is that the world around us has changed: look what is happening in Trapani, in Trieste with the entry of the American fund, or in other places where investments are coming from abroad. We, on the other hand, are a homegrown project”.
“Slowly we are also solving the difficulties we had with the region in recent years. Our budget has never dropped; on the contrary, it has grown. If we are not in the playoffs, it is not the fault of the budget, but of a work that – net of injuries – has not been effective enough. I am not hiding: I, for example, a pair like Bibbins-Halilovic would never have done it. It was a brave choice, but unfortunately it did not pay” Sardara concluded.
