Max Verstappen, McLaren in crosshairs: "It matters who’s first at the end"

Max Verstappen comes to Monte Carlo 22 points behind Oscar Piastri, the leader of the Formula 1 drivers’ standings, despite a superiority of McLaren over Red Bull that appears to be clear at the moment. Victories at Suzuka and Imola, however, have relaunched the Dutchman’s rainbow ambitions, although he is aware that he may struggle again in Monaco.
“Generally we go better on fast tracks, so this weekend I will be more cautious – premised Verstappen on Thursday in Monte Carlo.”
Moreover, here, even when you have the best car, it is always difficult to put together a perfect lap. The track is narrow, bumpy, and there can be traffic problems. But qualifying well is crucial, given how complicated it is to overtake in the race”.
“To get a good result in Monaco you have to get everything right, including the track. It depends a lot on where you are in traffic, and you cannot relax even for a moment. You’re always driving in a constant state of tension. Then there will also be the two mandatory pit stops, which maybe could further liven things up” continued Verstappen.
Netting the difficulties in Monte Carlo, however, Verstappen’s real goal remains the world championship. And the Red Bull champion did not hide: “We still have aspects of the car to improve, and from this point of view Imola allowed us to learn many things. We know what we need to work on. And in the end it only matters to be leading the standings after the’last race of the championship”.
