Inter, from Champions dream to record-breaking defeat: Francesco Acerbi’s tears

There will certainly be time to analyze what happened in Munich, where an impalpable Inter team was dominated in the Champions League final by PSG, but already the first reactions on the pitch leave no doubt about the bitterness felt by the Nerazzurri protagonists. Particularly striking are the tears of Francesco Acerbi, one of those who dragged the Beneamata to the final.

Already immediately after the 4-0 goal, scored by’former Napoli player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Acerbi squatted down on the field, as if trying to catch his breath after being swept away, without hiding his bright eyes. Despite the veteran’s efforts, from there to the final whistle also came the fifth goal, netted by Mayulu with 3′ left in the 90′.

Acerbi’s goal was the fifth.

Acerbi remains, however, one of the key elements of the ride that made the Nerazzurri fans dream: it will remain in their memory, above all, the goal of the 3-3 draw against Barcelona in the return semifinal played at San Siro, a goal scored at 93′ that had allowed the match to be extended to extra time, where Frattesi would later score the decisive goal.

For the Nerazzurri defender it was, as for several of his teammates, the second Champions League final lost in the space of three years: compared to the Istanbul match against Manchester City, the Nerazzurri never managed to get into the game, conceding a record-breaking defeat, with the worst ever loss in a final of Europe’s top competition.
