Tour of Dauphiné, Tadej Pogacar triumph in penultimate stage

Tadej Pogacar soloed to victory in the queen stage of the Critérium del Dauphiné in Valmeinier 1800, consolidating the yellow jersey on the eve of the final finish.
The Slovenian sprinted 12 kilometers from the finish on the last of this stage’s three climbs. He then managed the race to win by 14 seconds over Jonas Vingegaard.
In the overall standings, Pogačar now leads over Vingegaard with 1’01 and over German Florian Lipowitz, third on the stage, with 2’21, while Remco Evenepoel, who quickly lost positions, is fourth at 4’11.
This is the 98th career victory for Pogacar, who, at only 26 years old, becomes the active rider with the most wins.
Vingegaard’s Visma nevertheless tried everything, attacking from kilometer zero with Victor Campenaerts, sending Sepp Kuss into the day’s breakaway, and even gritting his teeth in the final part of the Col de la Croix de Fer with Matteo Jorgenson.
But nothing stemmed the firepower of the world champion who, like yesterday in Combloux, pulled away from Vingegaard and the rest of the small group of favorites within a few meters.
