Negative news is coming out of the Washington ATP tournament. Both Cobolli and Arnaldi were eliminated. The former lost, badly, to the U.S. Tiafoe who won 6-1, 6-4. The’azzurro appeared decidedly drained, never being able to get into the match.

Nothing to do either for Sanremese Arnaldi, who surrendered to host and world No. 4 Fritz. The’Italian was beaten in two sets (6-3, 6-4 the match partials). At this point, there are no more Italians in play in the U.S. tournament.

He also bids farewell to Venus Williams. After astounding the world by managing to win both a doubles match and, most importantly, a singles match at the age of 45, Serena’s sister was beaten, rather sharply, by Magdalena Frech.

The Polish tennis player was beaten, rather sharply, by Magdalena Frech.

The Polish tennis player, the No. 5 seed on the draw, was not intimidated by Venus Williams and settled the matter with a double 6-2, imposing her game from the first exchanges. The 45-year-old Venus Williams, greeted with great warmth by her audience, will surely return to the scene at the US Open where she is already signed up for doubles. She has certainly regained the desire to play at certain levels after a good 16 months away from the tennis courts.
