Rugby, FIR rejects trial and goes back to the old ways
Back to the old system of awarding points in the Top10
The Italian Rugby Federation has announced the cancellation of the experimental scoring rules for the Top10 rankings and the consequent reinstatement of the arrangements prior to the 2021/22 season.
After only one season in which “hybrid” rules regarding bonus points were used, there is thus a return to the old way: in addition to 4 points for victory, 2 for a draw, and 0 for defeat, the teams in the field will be able to get an extra point by scoring at least four tries in the match and yet another one reserved for the losing team, provided it has contained the gap, at the final whistle, to seven points or less.
This means that a victorious team can get 4 or 5 points, one that draws 2 or 3 points and one that loses 0, 1 or even 2 points in the standings if it gets both bonuses.
