U.S. Open, Jannik Sinner has his sights set on derby with Lorenzo Musetti

After overcoming with a gentle triple 6-1 Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, Jannik Sinner is already looking ahead to the quarterfinals of the US Open, where an all-Italian challenge with Lorenzo Musetti awaits him. The latter, after a suffering summer, has found his best strokes precisely at Flushing Meadows, and regardless of how it ends he has already updated his best result in the fourth slam of the season.
Talking at the press conference, Jannik Sinner made no secret of the fact, talking about his next opponent: “Lorenzo is an amazing player, who plays great tennis – he said -. He has suffered a little bit during this season, but now he is in great shape and that will also make the pressure all on me”.
This is certainly not the first time, however, that Sinner is experiencing the eve of a match with the typical pressure of a favorite: “We have to see what happens, how the match will go– said the champion from Sesto Pusteria -. I like these challenges and also, from the point of view of Italian tennis, it will certainly be a great appointment, very heartfelt”.
Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti will face each other on Wednesday, September 3: the two have met on a couple of occasions on the main circuit, in 2021 in Antwerp and in 2023 in Monte Carlo, with the South Tyrolean winning both times. A third meeting was also supposed to take place in 2023 in Barcelona, but Sinner had to forfeit due to injury.
