Nobody wins in Madrid, but the Vuelta is Jonas Vingegaard’s

The Vuelta de España 2025 ends in the worst way. In fact, the 103.6-kilometer-long final stage, starting in Alalpardo and finishing in Madrid, was blocked 60 kilometers from the finish line by protesters who then forced the organizers to cancel it permanently.
The awards ceremony was not held either. In any case, the champion of the Spanish race is Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) who had mortgaged his success on Saturday with his triumph on the Bola del Mundo. For the Dane, a two-time Tour de France champion, this is his first victory in the Vuelta.
Filling out the general classification podium are Portugal’s Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), second, and Britain’s Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), third. Just outside the top 5 was Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), who finished in sixth place.
In the points classification, however, another Dane triumphed: Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), who won the green jersey for the second time, beating compatriot Jonas Vingegaard and Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck).
