Federico Chiesa, sudden turnaround ahead of January market

Despite the mutual attestations of esteem between Federico Chiesa and his coach at Liverpool, Arne Slot, the possibility of a transfer of the 1997 class striker in the January market, with a chance to return to Serie A, was still alive: however, everything changed with the serious injury of Giovanni Leoni, which in fact changed the internal balance at the Reds, giving new importance to Chiesa himself.
The son of Enrico, in fact, had not been included in the UEFA list for the Champions League, but the former Parma defender’s injury has freed up a place on the list, occupied by the Dutch coach’s decision, as of today, by Chiesa himself. This means that the European champion with the national team in 2021 will be able to return, as early as the second day of the League Phase, to play in Europe’s top competition.
The single-round main phase of the Champions League will experience the seventh day on Jan. 20 and 21 and the last on Jan. 28. Therefore, it seems increasingly difficult that Chiesa may choose to accept a possible transfer right in January, confirming his intention to play his best every chance to play with the Reds jersey. A sudden turnaround that will cause suitors (above all Inter Milan) to reevaluate their proposals, putting them off in all likelihood until the summer.
Federico Chiesa was signed by Liverpool in the final phase of the 2024 summer market: 12 million euros was the amount paid, at the time of the transfer, to Juventus, for a negotiation that also included 3 million in bonuses upon the achievement of specific seasonal goals. Chiesa has found relatively little space in fifteen months on the red bank of the River Mersey, however, scoring a couple of important goals such as the one that was effectively worth the victory against Bournemouth on the first day of the 2025-2026 Premier League.
