There was no shortage of surprises in Tuesday evening’s Champions League matches. The most significant came from Istanbul, where host Galatasaray beat Liverpool 1-0: the decider was a penalty kick scored by Victor Osimhen on 16′. Haunted night for the Reds, who lose Alisson and Ekitiké to injury, replaced by Mamardashvili at 56′ and MacAllister at 68′.

Dreaming night, on the other hand, for Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille, which sank Ajax with a clear 4-0: Paixao launched OM with a brace at 6′ and 12′, Greenwood signed the trio at 26′ and Aubameyang closed the score at 52′. Winning largely, both by 5-1, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich: the Colchoneros beat Eintracht Frankfurt at home (4′ Raspadori, 33′ Le Normand, 46′ first-half Griezmann, 57′ Burkardt for the guests, 70′ Giuliano Simeone, 82′ Alvarez penalty), the Bavarians have no problem on the field of Pafos (15′ and 34′ Kane, 20′ Guerreiro, 31′ Jackson, 45′ Orsic for the Cypriots, 69′ Olise).

Mourinho’s ‘first’ European match on Benfica’s bench is bitter: the Eagles lose 1-0 at home to Chelsea, one of the clubs coached by the Special One during his career, and remain on zero points, decided by a Rios own goal on 18′. The Blues play a few seconds in ten in the final, for the second yellow waved in front of Joao Pedro at 96′.

Tottenham, finally, took a big risk in Norway: Bodo/Glimt, despite a penalty shot high by High at 35′, went 2-0 up thanks to a brace by ex-Milanist Hauge, who scored at 53′ and 66′, but recovered with Van de Ven’s mark at 68′ and Gundersen’s unlucky own goal at 89’89’. Both contenders remain unbeaten after two rounds: two points for Bodo, four for Spurs.
