In the last Europa League match between Go Ahead Eagles and Stuttgart there was a very ugly incident that made the rounds: after a particularly hard counter, Victor Edvardsen had something to say to Angelo Stiller and an argument ensued. At one point the Go Ahead Eagles center forward insulted Stiller for the size of his nose and the Stuttgart midfielder did not take it well at all, fortunately, however, the referee intervened in time and prevented the situation from escalating further. Victor Edvardsen&#8217s shameful gesture went around the world and thousands of social users harshly criticized the striker.

The episode was fueled by social media and the news went around the world, sparking outrage in all parts of the globe. The Go Ahead Eagles took action against its member by fining him 500 euros, an amount that will be donated to the club’s social services. Victor Edvardsen has since publicly apologized: I want to apologize for my behavior in the Europa League match against Stuttgart. Things were said and done between us that do not belong on a soccer field. After the game I went to the Stuttgart locker room to offer an apology. I have a role as an example for others and I must behave accordingly. Victor”.

Wesley Sneijder, now a commentator for Ziggo Sport, expressed his disgust at Edvardsen’s gesture live on air: “He should go to the locker room and apologize immediately. This is bullying and we know what bullying can lead to, we’ve seen a lot of it, it’s serious. The Go Ahead Eagles people should grab him by the ear and drag him into the Stuttgart locker room to offer an apology to Angelo Stiller. I have to stop talking because I am getting more and more angry”. Plenty of people on social media applauded Sneijder for taking a strong stance against the Go Ahead Eagles’attacker.

Growing up in Sweden in the IFK, Victor Edvardsen as a boy also played for Utsiktens BK, Elverum, Stenungsund IF, Karlstad BK, Degerfors and Djurgården before moving to Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands in 2023 for 700’000 euros. A center forward with great physicality, the star also collected 1 appearance with the Swedish senior national team (in January 2023 in the friendly match against Iceland). Victor Edvardsen&#8217s qualities are not in question, di verto, however, the footballer should better control his emotions and prevent unpleasant episodes such as the one that saw him’s involvement with Angelo Stiller from happening again.
