Jimmy Connors alerts Carlos Alcaraz and brings up Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic
Connors warns Alcaraz
Jimmy Connors, former tennis player and winner of eight Grand Slam titles, elaborated on Carlos Alcaraz’s expectations in the latest episode of his podcast.
The U.S. tennis legend was quick to clarify, “Carlos Alcaraz is undoubtedly the man to beat after winning the U.S. Open and becoming ATP No. 1. Opponents have a special motivation when they take the court against him.”
“He has to learn to win even when he is at 70 percent or when the surface is not ideal for his characteristics. It will be interesting to watch his evolution. Tennis has changed a lot since my time,” Connors continued.
Finally, Jimmy indulged in a fancy comparison: “Thanks to rackets and strings, you can generate so much power. Alcaraz is a hybrid player: he shoots very hard and can touch the ball well. He is a bit of a mix between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.”
After an irresistible rise Carlos Alcaraz in 2022 won his first Grand Slam title, at the US Open. With the victory in the U.S., he gained the top spot in the Atp rankings, becoming the youngest tennis player in history to achieve the feat, at age 19 years 4 months and 7 days.
