Even when he remains silent, Jannik Sinner causes controversy: after the death of Nicola Pietrangeli, the South Tyrolean tennis player decided not to publicly pay tribute to the Azzurro sports icon, again drawing against legions of critics on social media. It was later reported on Tuesday that the Azure preferred to offer private condolences to the family, and the controversy that arose was quickly put to rest. On X, the well-known journalist Fabrizio Biasin was drastic on web (and other) haters: “Even today, here and there, various thinkers chose to rebuke Sinner: “Not even a post for Pietrangeli!” It finally turned out that Jannik dared to do something very serious in the modern era: he wrote to the family privately. Sinner-Detractors 6-0 6-0. Also today”.

The Festival still goes to the champion’s charge: will it be the'good year?
So far, the South Tyrolean champion has always rejected the courtship of the Sanremo Festival
For years the tennis player from San Candido has been regularly invited to the'Ariston, but every attempt has gone unsuccessful
Sinner has always preferred to focus on his career, and in a recent interview he had been rather caustic
"I don't go, I have better things to do", had said the Azure during last year's Supertennis Awards ceremony

But Carlo Conti does not give up and is ready to try again
According to rumors reported by Oggi, the artistic director and host is doing everything to convince the champion
He wants to make him the protagonist in one of the evenings of the Festival
In the coming weeks it will be known whether the'South Tyrolean this time will let himself be convinced
Sinner in January will go after his third consecutive win at the Australian Open
His goal is to return to world number one as soon as possible

Like Sinner, other Azzurri such as Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Sonego and Simone Bolelli remained silent on social media, preferring to offer private condolences to the family. Instead, Fabio Fognini wanted to pay public tribute to Pietrangeli: “On the best day of my career, when I raised the trophy in Monte Carlo, he was with me. Gone is a legend of our sport, the great Nic who gave advice to everyone, in the locker room, in the Davis Cup. Unique. Italian tennis will miss him because a great piece of our history has said goodbye. He paved the way for this magnificent sport, after him came Panatta and Barazzutti”.

Even a legend like Rafael Nadal wanted to remember him: “I just learned of the sad news of the passing of a great of Italian and world tennis– he wrote on social -. My deepest condolences to his entire family, his son Filippo, and the entire Italian tennis family. Rest in peace, Nicola”. “Nicola was my friend, although we used to catch each other every now and then, but it was a game we played – said Adriano Panatta instead. “I want to remember him cheerfully, he was an extraordinary character, beyond being an absolute champion who won practically everything there was to win during the time he played. When I was born he was a 17-year-old playing at Parioli tennis and was already a promising player, then he and I kind of changed the guard. We also played together, we had fun, we vacationed together. Nicola and I were very close friends”.

Wednesday will be the day of Nicola Pietrangeli’s funeral: as per his wishes, the funeral chamber will be held in the field named after him at the Foro Italico. “It will be done there because there&#8217s parking and there are 3,000 seats. In case of rain we could postpone, putting the coffin in the underpass. The music I am still deciding, although ‘My way’ on the way out would not be bad” he had said wryly in a 2023 interview. He is scheduled to be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the funeral rites will be held privately at the church of St. Mary of the Great Mother of God, Ponte Milvio.
