Marco Odernattset the best time in 1’35″50 (shortened run), ahead of Canadian Brodie Seger at 40 cents, to Frenchman Matthieu Bailet, who came down with bib number 63 (+0″41) and to Austrian Daniel Hemetsberger at 0″64. Fifth place for Dominik Paris at 0″81. “There was fog at the top that came and went,” Paris said, “but here the weather changes very quickly, no use looking. Anyway, we made it and in the next few days we will see how it will beà. The slope has softer sections with uncleared snow and therefore quite peculiar.”

A superb Dorothea Wierer meanwhile returns to lay down the law in Östersund and wins the women’s 15 km, the first individual race of the World Cup season: it is her 17th overall career World Cup victory, her seventh in the specialty, a success that comes exactly ten years after her first high point, which came in Östersund on December 3, 2015. In between, in the specialty on these snows there was also room for success in March 2023.

All in all, this is Wierer’s sixth success in Östersund, including the rainbow title in the mass start in 2019.

In addition to three pearls in the 15 km in her splendid career, there is also room for another mass start and a sprint. And it is Doro Wierer who gives snow Italy its first victory this winter. A race in crescendo, for the 35-year-old South Tyrolean at the last season of her career: one mistake in each of the first two sessions, then only perfection. Thus took shape a comeback that started from 27th place after two polygons. Thirteenth after the second session on the ground, second after the excellent fourth polygon (23″3): the final lap saw the Italian go wild to mock the surprising Finn Sonja Leinamo (0-0-1-0) by only 3 tenths. Also robust was Wierer’s ski run, author of the fifth fastest time overall.

The day’s podium was completed by France’s Camille Bened, who paid dearly for a mistake in the final polygon: +8″4 from Wierer, with Lou Jeanmonnot (0-0-1-1) and Hanna Öberg (2-1-0-0) close behind, followed by Belgium’s Maya Clötens (0-0-0-1).
