Champions: Inter overwhelms Viktoria Plzen and closes qualification talks
Inter makes no mistake and hits eighth-place goal
Called upon to get a result to close out qualification talks, Inter made no mistake and downed Viktoria Plzen, the cinderella of Champions League Group C, with a clear 4-0 win.
The team entrusted for one evening to Massimiliano Farris, deputy of the disqualified Simone Inzaghi, has the ball of the game in its hands from the start but needs 35′ to score: it is Mkhitaryan who succeeds, good at hitting a ball crossed by Bastoni and missed by Dzeko with his head, past Stanek.
From that moment on, it’s all easy for the Nerazzurri: Dzeko redeems a few too many lightnesses under the goal and scores first in the 42nd minute, depositing the ball into an unguarded goal after a nice choral action, and then in the 66th minute, making the most of Lautaro Martinez’s assist.
With the games now over there is also glory for Romelu Lukaku, who has returned from a long injury: it is he, in fact, who puts his signature on the Nerazzurri’s poker by closing a triangulation with Correa.
The success, therefore, allows Inter to follow Bayern to the round of 16, while eliminating Barcelona, already arithmetically in the Europa League playoff.
