Novak Djokovic happy with victory but ranking cries
The Serb has just celebrated his seventh Wimbledon title.
Djokovic won his seventh Wimbledon title (fourth consecutive). An outstanding achievement that, however, did not bring any improvement to his ranking. Compounded by the ATP’s decision not to award points at Wimbledon (a response to the British tournament organization’s decision not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate), the Serb did not “cash in” the 2,000 points intended for the winner, and his ranking position plummeted.
In fact, Djokovic has now slipped to seventh place in the ATP rankings, his worst ranking since 10th place back on August 13, 2018. Finalist Kyrgios also sees his ranking deteriorate: from 40th to 45th (lost 1200 points guaranteed to the finalist).
