Women’s European Championships, England triumphs: Germany folded after 120′
England-Germany 2-1 after extra time.
The England of soccer, after the disappointment of Euro 2020 with the victory of Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri on penalties against Southgate’s formation, takes its revenge thanks to the women’s national team that, again in the splendid setting of Wembley, conquers the first continental laurel in its history. They beat Germany after 120′ of struggle and great plays also from a technical point of view.
After a balanced first half, the match flared up in the second half: after a couple of good chances wasted, Germany paid the price by suffering the English lead signed by Toone. The Germans never let up, however, and evened the score in the 79th minute with Lina Magull. It went into extra time: the balance was broken in the 110th minute by Chloe Kelly, who sealed the final 2-1, sending the 87,000 spectators present into delirium.
