Gino Rea, news after frightening motorcycle crash: wife talks
Honda rider Gino Rea has been in a medically induced coma since Saturday after the terrible accident at Suzuka
Hopes are rising for Gino Rea, the Honda rider who was despite himself the protagonist of a terrible accident during the Suzuka 8 Hours. The British centaur, in a medically induced coma since last Saturday, has made some important progress, his wife revealed in a note.
“So far we have not been able to publish any updates regarding Gino’s health condition. This is due to Japanese culture, in that no news is released to the media without prior direct contact with the family. We arrived ââin Japan on Monday, August 8 at 8:00 p.m. and for this we have to thank the EWC, FIM, Suzuka Circuit, the British Consulate and the TSR team for all their help in arranging emergency visas for all of us. Later, at 2:30 p.m., we had the opportunity to see Gino, so now we have confirmation from the doctors about his condition.”
“Gino was admitted to intensive care on Saturday, August 6, following an accident during the second free practice session. He suffered a concussion and sustained serious head injuries, as well as injuries to his left collarbone. He is still under sedation to reduce the swelling in his brain and to control his temperature. He is expected to undergo another CT scan on Wednesday (tomorrow) to re-evaluate his condition. From us, thanks for the excellent work of the Suzuka doctors, helicopter crew and hospital staff. Gino has a very strong mind, lives life to the fullest and gives 100% in any situation. This will help him recover.”
