Ducati, bitter pill for Jorge Martin: Dall’Igna explains choice
Ducati’s CEO explains why Enea Bastianini is Borgo Panigale’s new factory rider and not Jorge Martin
For an Enea Bastianini justifiably elated at having managed to land in the official Ducati team, there is a Jorge Martin clearly disappointed with the choice of the Borgo Panigale stable. The Spaniard until last year was clearly the favorite to succeed Jack Miller, but physical problems this season, and the resounding growth of the Beast, have made the difference.
General manager Gigi Dall’Igna in a statement explained the choice: “Enea is a very talented rider who has matured a lot in the last two years with Ducati. He has grown quickly, getting two podiums in his debut year in MotoGp and scoring three wins this season. We are convinced that with the Ducati Lenovo team he will be able to take another step forward and always be among the protagonists. It wasn’t easy to choose between him and Jorge Martin, they are two very fast young riders, and that’s why we wanted to ensure both of them the same material and technical support. We are confident that they will prove their talent on the track.”
