Italy one step away from dream comeback, but Greece wins

Lots of difficulties, then a splendid comeback that stops at the best of times.

Italy falls at the European Basketball Championships in the presence of a great Greece, which remains undefeated and wins 85-81. The Greeks long in control of operations at the Mediolanum Forum, where Italy tried to retake the game with a thrilling fourth quarter. However, the dream of the feat came to a screeching halt.

On the shields an extraordinary Simone Fontecchio, author of 26 points and top scorer of the night ahead of even an overflowing Giannis Antetokounmpo, who stopped at 25. Very difficult, however, to recover from the -14 at the end of the third quarter: Italy tried and almost succeeded, showing technique and character that in the continuation of Eurobasket 2022 will come in very handy.

The next challenge for Pozzecco’s Italy will come on Monday, September 5: opponent will be Ukraine.
