Italbasket, miracle with Serbia: it’s to the quarters
Italy-Serbia 94-86
Victory absolutely against all odds for Italbasket, which at the European Championships managed to eliminate 94-86 the highly favored Serbia, qualifying for the quarterfinals.
After a suffered first quarter (also because of a very questionable refereeing throughout the game), the Azzurri stayed in the game tooth and nail, thanks to a monumental Nicolò Melli on both sides of the court.
In the second half, Fontecchio but above all a surprising Marco Spissu only rose to the cathedra to the tune of triples, signing (after Pozzecco’s expulsion for double technical) the resounding overtaking and the stretch even in double figures.
Nikola Jokic in the fourth quarter tried almost single-handedly to reopen the accounts but Italy with great coolness and lucidity completed its feat, deserving the pass to the next round with France.
