The Italian national team closed out the first phase of the 2022 World Championships by clinching its fifth consecutive win in Pool A. The European champions in the group’s big match defeated the Netherlands 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21) in front of a large home crowd. The five wins and 15 points won allow Italy to present itself with the best ranking for Pool E in Rotterdam, where Mazzanti’s girls will face the four teams from Pool D: Argentina, Brazil, Japan and China.
This is the schedule for the 2nd phase of the tricolor national team: Oct. 4 (5:15 p.m.) Italy-Brazil; Oct. 5 (2:15 p.m.) Italy-Japan; Oct. 7 (5:15 p.m.) Italy-Argentina; Oct. 8 (1:30 p.m.) Italy-China.
Rounding out Group F are Belgium, the Netherlands and Puerto Rico; the top four finishers in this group of eight will qualify for the quarterfinals in Apeldoorn (Oct. 11).
Against the Netherlands, Italy lined up on the court with Orro at setter, opposite Egonu, setters Bosetti and Pietrini, centers Chirichella and Danesi, libero De Gennaro.
