Serie B, the award dedicated to Gigi Simoni returns
Second Gentleman’s Fair Play
An interest in values, always. Not in who wins or even who loses. The desire for those who take the field to be fair, fair. Whether it is the coach or the player, of every team. Small, big, champions and not.
It is with this spirit, with this vision that the organization of the Gentleman Fair Play Award has decided to renew together with the Lega Serie B, which has always been a container of ideas and initiatives that look to the future of soccer, an award dedicated to coaches in memory of Gigi Simoni, a champion of style and fair play: “An award that wants to reward not only the skill, the results or the revelation of the season,” explained Lega Serie B President Mauro Balata father of the award, “but above all the behavior, the elegance of gestures, education and respect.
“This is what soccer must teach. This is what we, with humility, have been trying for years to emphasize, bringing out only the beauty of this sport,” added Gianfranco Fasan patron of Gentleman Fair Play.
The Gentleman Coach Gigi Simoni 2021/22 will therefore be awarded to the coach capable of embodying the values of Respect, Fair Play and “style” on the bench, qualities that allowed in the last edition, 2020/21, Claudio Ranieri to enter first in the award’s roll of honor.
The twenty current Serie BKT coaches will be able to express a single preference, to the A or B coach, who in the 2021/2022 season embodied the values that characterized the human and professional traits of Gigi Simoni, a gentleman of soccer.
The award ceremony will be organized in the coming weeks at the Lega B headquarters in Milan in the presence of Balata, Fasan and family members of the former coach who among his achievements also holds the record for promotions from B to A.
