Trieste coach thanks club for Michele Ruzzier
Pallacanestro Trieste 2004 has announced that it has acquired the right to the sports performance of Trieste’s class of ’93 point guard, Michele Ruzzier. Ruzzier thus returns to wear the red and white after eight years in which he walked on some of the most important stages of European basketball.
“The addition of Michele to the roster was a negotiation that the club was good at concluding in the best possible way, and for this I am grateful. I am happy that “Ruz” wanted to come back to Trieste despite the fact that several solutions had been presented to him, because I know him well and I know how much he will be able to give us. He is a pure playmaker with a strong personality, capable of involving all his teammates in the offensive phase thanks to an excellent vision of the game. His graft will allow us to raise the quality of the team giving us the possibility to have new tactical set-ups to use during the course of the games. Finally, I believe that the player’s personal motivation to return to his hometown, to a team that is showing clear signs of growth, can be an additional help in achieving our common goals,” explained the coach of the red and white team, Marco Legovich.
“We are excited about Michele’s return to Trieste because we believe he can be an important addition to give balance to the team in terms of rotations and quality of play. We have made a clear agreement with the player that goes in the direction of multi-year programming. He has a contract that binds him to us until 2025 and this, in addition to pleasing him, also highlights our desire to look to the future, to give solid foundations to a team that can be ambitious, ready to face the coming years with the will to make a real leap in quality. Michele will undoubtedly need time to get into our mechanisms and to regain his game rhythm, but we are dealing with a great professional who I am sure will find with our staff the best way to be ready when we need him. I also want to thank Virtus Bologna here for the spirit of cooperation that allowed us to close the deal in the best possible way,” commented Pallacanestro Trieste President Mario Ghiacci.
Raised in Azzurra’s youth academy, Michele Ruzzier made his debut in Pallacanestro Trieste’s first team in the 2010-2011 season, then continued to soldier in his city’s top formation until 2014. From 2014 to 2016 the landing in Serie A among the ranks of Reyer Venezia, to arrive on loan the following season at Fortitudo Bologna with whom he won the LNP Supercoppa. In July 2017, the return to Serie A with the jersey of Vanoli Cremona, where he remained for three seasons and won the Italian Cup in 2019, recording 76 appearances on the parquet with over 540 points scored.
The 2020-2021 season sees him wearing the Varese Basketball jersey, where he closes the regular season in the top ten assist men of the Italian Championship. The numbers in Varese land earned him a major call to Sergio Scariolo’s court. Michele then moves to Virtus Bologna last season and with the V Nere wins two Italian Supercups and the Eurocup 2022, but finds little space in the Bolognese club’s rotation.
With the Under 20 National Team he won the European Championship in 2013 and made his debut with the senior National Team on February 20, 2020 during the Azzurri’s victory against Russia, valid for the qualification to the European Championships, totaling 18 appearances with the youth National Teams, 6 with the experimental National Team and 5 with the A National Team.
