Cantù, Meo Sacchetti explains the key to the wide success against Latina
Meo Sacchetti’s words after Cantù’s success at Latina
It was a beaming Meo Sacchetti who commented on his Cantù’s success on Latina’s parquet: an 81-62 that leaves little room for interpretation of a match largely dominated by the Brianzoli, especially in the second half.
“We made a very good start, building some important actions in transition and dominating in shooting,” said the former Italbasket technical commissioner. “As time went by, however, Latina came out and put us in trouble, while we stopped defending with the intensity that had marked the first minutes. At that point we also missed some easy shots and they managed to get back into the game. They caught up with us in the second half, but then we came back on the court from halftime with the right spirit. The team tightened up well on defense and consequently raised the pace of the game.”
“At that moment,” Sacchetti further explained, “we signed an important break of 14-22, which directed the outcome of the match. They didn’t get back in the running and we managed until the 40th minute. I am happy with Francesco Stefanelli’s championship debut. He was given good minutes and moved well. He initially came into the game a little hesitant, but then he loosened up and showed some good things. The key on defense? We nullified their point guard and point guard, forcing them to force shots and stay on low percentages.”
