Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi, Hodgson speaks out
Neil Hodgson’s words.
Neil Hodgson, former SBK champion and rider in MotoGP, spoke to BT Sport about Marc Marquez. “There are riders who have won more than him in MotoGP. He wants to beat Valentino. Marc races by always taking risks, but the reward for that approach is huge since he has won eight world championships. He lives on the edge, often in FP1 he enters the track and goes 100% right away while the others are still trying to find confidence. I’ve often seen Marc trim two or three seconds off the others after two laps, with the bike sliding all over the place. He always takes risks, goes to the limit and then comes back to the pits and is able to give all the useful information to the engineers.”
“Of the six MotoGP titles it has won, Honda probably did best in 2014. The problem was that they didn’t develop the bike after that because they had the best. Then all the other manufacturers caught up and overtook them. Honda was no longer able to catch up. From then on it was difficult. Marquez made the difference. He took risks all the time. When it is wet and you can go out with slicks, Marc goes out with slicks. Who is the first to change tires and take risks? Always Marc. He is different from the others and it worked,” he concluded.
