Swimming, great Italy in Melbourne: Paltrinieri and relay team golden
Blue swimming gets off to a strong start at the 2022 World Short Course Championships
Great start for Italian swimming at the 2022 Short-Tank World Championships, which began in Melbourne. Gregorio Paltrinieri took the gold medal in the 1,500-meter freestyle, dominating the race with a time of 14:16.88. Behind him were France’s Joly and Norway’s Christiansen. Paltrinieri thus becomes the first Italian to win gold twice at the World Championships in the short pool. “It had been a long time since I had won in this format as well,” the Italian said with satisfaction after the race.
The men’s 4×100 freestyle relay was also a dream: the quartet composed of Miressi, Conte Bonin, Deplano and Ceccon struck gold with a time of 3:02.75 and set a new world record. Nothing to do for the two super powers Australia and the United States, who were forced to settle for second and third place.
