New drubbing for Emiliano Martinez: “He embarrassed all of Argentina.”
Graeme Souness tough on Emiliano Martinez
At the microphones of the Daily Mail, Scottish soccer legend Graeme Souness harshly attacked Emiliano Martinez: “Much of the post-World Cup debate has centered on his behavior during penalty kicks. I can accept certain things but only up to a point.”
“What we should talk more about is the rude gesture he made after collecting the award for the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Are there really people who enjoy watching something like that? Martinez embarrassed himself and all of Argentina. If that’s what he wants to be remembered for, God help us all,” Souness continued.
“I like him as a goalkeeper, he did well with Argentina and at Aston Villa, but it is unbelievable that he could think such gestures are normal. I don’t understand why he decided to do this in front of everyone’s eyes. What respect does he show for his opponents and also for himself? He could have been remembered for years to come but unfortunately even that image is now part of history,” Graeme Souness’ closing remarks.
