Novak Djokovic speaks out: ‘Me at Australian Open to win it’
After the long-awaited return, here is the very clear communication of intent.
Novak Djokovic is back in Australia after a year of enforced absence. And speaking to the media in Adelaide, he has already framed in no uncertain terms what his goal is at the Australian Open: to return to win it, for what would be for him his tenth triumph in the tournament that traditionally coincides with the first Slam of the year.
“Confidence in myself is always high, as well as the knowledge that I can win wherever I am,” Djokovic said, speaking to Australian reporters. “The career I’ve had allows me to have a certain kind of attitude and focus with respect to the events that affect me, even if they don’t depend on my will.
“There are men and women who will also make tennis extraordinary in the future, but at the end of the day I know how to behave even against them. And I know what I have to do to win in Melbourne. All the wins and defeats I have collected allow me to approach this time of the year in the best way,” Djokovic added.
Then the proclamation, “I am not hiding, at the Australian Open I aim for the final victory. And not only that, in Melbourne I want to play my best tennis. Also because one of the reasons for me to play again is to keep giving my best all the time. Especially at the Slams, where every single victory is special.” Novak Djokovic’s word.
