Fernando Alonso returns to talk about Michael Schumacher
Fernando Alonso remembers the feats of Michael Schumacher
Speaking to the official social channels of Aston Martin, the stable for which he will drive in the season beginning in just under a month, Fernando Alonso spoke among other things about the impact Michael Schumacher had, first as an idol and then as a rival, on his career.
“Michael did not have bad days, he never raced below his potential,” said the two-time world champion. “This is the thing that impressed me the most when I came to Formula 1 and especially when I fought with him for the championship.
“All my rivals, in the categories in which I raced, happened to have bad days and that was where I would try to capitalize, gain as many points as possible,” Alonso added. “With Michael it didn’t happen, because he and Ferrari were unbeatable for so long. And then, even when there was something wrong with the car, tires or whatever, Michael still finished second or third.”
“He could have bad practice or have problems in qualifying, but on Sunday you would still find Michael on the podium. He had this tenacity, this willingness to take every opportunity to minimize the consequences of bad days and maximize the good ones. He had an exceptional determination,” concluded the Asturian.
