Nick Kyrgios throws broadsides at old tennis glories
“For them there would be no hope.”
Gifted with unquestionable talent, capable of high-class strokes, loved and hated by the public. But also quirky, controversial, controversial. On the court and in statements. All this is Nick Kyrgios, the latest Wimbledon finalist and a leading tennis player in the Australian movement.
Always straightforward in all his manifestations even in front of a microphone, Kyrgios did not contradict himself when, as a guest on American influencer and youtuber Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast, he talked about some old glories of American tennis such as John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and André Agassi.
“In no way could McEnroe, Sampras or Agassi survive in today’s tennis. If Michael Jordan could be among the best in basketball even in 2023, there would be no hope for them,” the Canberra native began. “Of course there is nothing personal in this consideration of mine. McEnroe is also a good guy, if a little crazy,” he concluded.
