Andy Murray attacks tennis: “Slam calendar does no one any good”
A formula that greatly annoys one of tennis veterans.
Andy Murray is bursting at the seams over the ATP top brass, who have come into his crosshairs ahead of the US Open. And the Scot launched a full-scale attack on the tennis world over the very organization of the Open, which in his opinion è has become too heavy for the players called to take the court.
"We have to deal with a calendar that is not good for anyone. Moreover, every time one of us complains, we hear that we are lucky to be playing tennis and that we should go to work in the factory – Murray vented to the microphones of 'Tennis Majors' -. The fact that we are lucky è true, but playing until 4 a.m. does not è help anyone".
In fact Murray, at the Australian Open, played a match against Kokkinakis until precisely 4 a.m. local time. "People also have to go home, only 10 percent of the audience stays in the stands. In other sports this does not happen. This è clearly wrong, and it depends solely and exclusively on economic factors", added the former world No. 1.
"If the evening round starts at 7:30 p.m., you can have two matches only on the women’s board. In the men's one can be a maximum of one. And it also applies to Wimbledon, where, moreover, there are too long breaks between matches,” Murray concluded.
