Giovanni Malagò makes an announcement on Milan-Cortina 2026
Milan-Cortina 2026: no bobsled track
The president of CONI and the Milan-Cortina 2026 Foundation Giovanni Malagò, during his speech at the session of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in Mumbai, announced that the new bobsled track in Cortina d'Ampezzo will not be built.
"Just two days ago, the government informed us that it is considering the best and most sustainable option, which is not to build the Sliding Center (bobsled track, ed.) and move the races to an already existing and functioning venue, and as a result Milan Cortina 2026 has to identify another venue outside Italy, said Malag".
"As you know, this venue è has been at the center of a long and controversial process – explained the number one of Italian sports -. Since the spring è a public bidding process has been underway that has gone through several stages. The dramatic international scenario of recent years has forced reflection on the resources originally allocated by the Italian government, and the ability to attract a few construction companies, capable of carrying out a complex project such as the bobsled track, has not produced many results".
For the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, an alternative solution will have to be evaluated, perhaps that of neighboring Innsbruck itself, as confirmed by Karl Stoss, president of the Austrian Olympic Committee: "Austria è a potential candidate and would be happy to support you".
