Killington Giant: Marta Bassino confident, Federica Brignone with one regret
The Words of Marta Bassino and Federica Brignone
After Wednesday s day devoid of training due to an intense snowfall that prevented them from putting on skis, the protagonists of the second women s World Cup giant slalom of the season, scheduled for Saturday on the U.S. Killington slope (first run at 4 pm.00, second run at 7 p.m.) had a full session on Thursday, while on Friday they were able to do the usual two laps of skiing on the race course. For Italy, Roberta Melesi, Laura Pirovano, Marta Bassino, Asja Zenere, Elisa Zenere, Elisa Platino, Sofia Goggia, Beatrice Sola and Federica Brignone (second in the Soelden opening in late October) will be at the start.
Marta Bassino (winner in Vermont in 2019 and second in 2022) spoke this way ahead of the race: "We are facing typical Killington weather with fog and wind, but snow and bottom are nice. Personally, the fact that I skipped the races in Cervinia in light of what è happened weather-wise, saved me from accumulating stress, but more importantly I needed the six days of training held in Sweden to calmly put myself in training, and I was able to regain a little more confidence that I è lacked in the initial race in Soelden"
Federica Brignone (winner in 2018 and second in 2019 behind Bassino herself): "The Killington slope è all uphill and varied, so there’s a lot of pushing to do. The speedsà are high, unfortunately we lost a few days of training that would have helped me find the pace I wanted, I don’t feel the sensations I would like but races always give you a’different adrenaline".
