Paris 2024 Olympics: Tita-Banti one step away from gold
Tita-Banti 'see' the'gold
Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti are one step away from repeating the gold, struck in Tokyo in 2020, at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the Nacra 17. The Italian pair, in fact, finished in second place in the twelfth race, behind China’s Mai-Chen, maintaining a 14-point lead over Argentina’s Majdalani-Bosco (only twelfth) in the overall standings.
In the Medal Race on Wednesday, Aug. 7, which will determine the final podium, the top 10 boats in the ranking list will participate. In this last and decisive race, the points will be worth double. To Tita-Banti, already certain of the silver medal, a seventh place will be enough to clinch the gold.
After Marta Maggetti’s gold medal triumph in women’s windsurfing, Italy is thus guaranteed another medal in Olympic sailing.
Italy has secured a total of 40 medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting a new record for haul in a single edition of the Games. Ten gold medals, as many silver medals and 20 bronze medals as well. Will the Azzurri be able to do better in France?”
