GP d'Italia at Monza, there'è optimism in the Ferrari clan
These are the words of Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz and the team principal of the house of Maranello Frederic Vasseur after the two free practice sessions of the Grand Prix d’Italia at the home circuit in Monza.
"Sunday’s race will be complicated for everyone, especially because of the new asphalt, and tire management will be crucial,” said Leclerc. “We are closer to our rivals than we were at Zandvoort, but they still remain very strong and tomorrow I expect a lot of competition".
"Overall è it was a pretty positive day,” added the Monegasque, who was second and fifth in the two sessions. “Our performance is good, driving the car è was enjoyable and the updates we made to the car are working as expected. What we need to focus on è the balance of the car, because thereé is still some room for improvement in this respect".
"È it was a very intense and interesting Friday,” said Sainz. “The Monza track è changed a lot, with very different curbs and a new asphalt. Because of this, the pitfalls and limitations of the car are quite different than in previous years, and we had to adapt to a new scenario in terms of setup and understanding tire degradation".
"There's a lot of work to be done tonight,” added the Spaniard, fourth and third in the two sessions, “to improve ahead of tomorrow, but overall " it was a positive start to the weekend".
"We are all very close and we expected a situation like this,” says Vasseur, “but we are satisfied. È important to have two cars ahead, it means we are competitive". To Sky Sport, the Frenchman admitted that a higher difficulty could come from tire wear.
"The race could become difficult because of tire wear, è difficult to predict it now but with the track può rubberized it could be better. New updates? We are happy but we only brought a new bottom and wing for Monza. Every little addition, però canò make a difference”, concluded Vasseur.
