Farewell to Ernesto Alicicco, Roma’s longtime physician

Goodbye to Alicco

Ernesto Alicicco, Roma’s longtime sports doctor, è died. News of the death, which occurred at his home in the capital, è was spread by his brother Francesco. Alicicco would have been 90 years old next Nov. 7. 

His career at Roma è began during Anzalone’s presidency, continued with Dino Viola at the helm and ended with Franco Sensi’s management, for a total of 23 years of service, from 1978 to 2001. 

After beginning his career as a sports physician with Lazio alongside Professor Renato Ziaco, he joined the Roma staff in 1978, appointed head of health services during the last year of Renato Anzalone’s presidency. During Viola’s stewardship, he experienced the 1983 Scudetto triumph. 

Later, he also collaborated with Franco Sensi’s Roma and, from 2002 to 2005, was sports doctor for Brescia coached by Carlo Mazzone. Alicicco è was also founder and for years president of the Free Association of Italian Football Doctors.
