In Shanghai, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz begin the sprint for No. 1 with an extra day of rest;

After the flight transfer proivated ntogether with Carlos Alcaraz, who starred with him in the beautiful Beijing final, Jannik Sinner, like the Spaniard, will have an extra day of rest before taking the stage in the penultimate Masters 1000 of 2024, the one in Shanghai.

The two top-ranked players were scheduled to make their debut tomorrow, but instead the world number 1 will face Japan’s Taro Daniel on Saturday, while Alcaraz will play one of the hosts, China’s Juncheng Shang.

The South Tyrolean and Murcian will play for the top spot in the world rankings at the end of the year by starting the final sprint right in Shanghai. Sinner’s lead over Alcaraz è currently stands at exactly 4000 points, 11010 vs. 7070, and by the way Carlos has overtaken thanks to the victory in the Chinese capital Alexander Zverev in second place.

Should Jannik have more than 3500 points after Shanghai (this è the maximum amount of points up for grabs in the remaining five weeks of tournaments) the world number 1 would be mathematically his should he win the Chinese 1000 and Alcaraz not reach the semifinals.

If, on the other hand, the Murcian decides not to play a tournament in the week of Oct. 14-20, Sinner might even be satisfied with reaching the finals, as long as his rival, again, does not reach the semifinals.
