MotoGP, Pecco Bagnaia the fastest in free practice 1 at Motegi
Little activity on the track, lots of rain in the night
The first free practice session at Motegi, site of the Japanese Grand Prix, smiled on Bagnaia. The reigning World Champion set the best time on track, stopping the clock on 1'45"209. A good test by Bagnaia, who essayed the track in less than ideal conditions.
The heavy rain that fell during the night made the circuit very wet. Hence the little activity on the track with the riders who have, above all, tested the track. Behind Bagnaia, he è ranked Martin. The leader of the World Drivers è standings is only 109 thousandths away from his number one rival for the title. Both Bagnaia and Martin turned nine total laps each.
Third time for Di Giannantonio while Marquez set the fourth fastest time of the session (eight laps completed). The’arrival of rain forced everyone to pit and then return to the track for the last minutes of the complicated session.
It should be remembered that Bagnaia è presented himself at the Japanese Grand Prix with 21 points behind Martin, fresh from his dominant victory at the Grand Prix of Indonesia. In Motegi, the reigning World Champion è called for a quick redemption to try to get closer to the Spaniard. Bastianini and Marquez, detached by 75 and 78 points respectively, must shine and hope that the top two have problems.
