Brazil toasts at the last minute and boosts its ranking
Chilean advantage with the'former Napoli Edu Vargas
Brazil wins in a comeback the challenge, valid for the qualification to the next World Cup, with Chile (2-1), thus conquering the momentary fourth place in the standings (13 points tottal, -6 from the leader Argentina). A complicated match for the Seleçao, solved by two players you don’t expect: Igor Jesus and Luiz Henrique.
The match with Chile started in the worst way for Brazil. After only two minutes of play, Edu Vargas, a former Napoli striker, put the Chilean national team ahead at the Estadio Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago. The Greenoro reaction materialized in the recovery of the first half with the equalizer signed by Igor Jesus, a 2001-class striker on Botafogo's absolute debut with the Brazilian national team jersey.
The draw does not help Brazil, which needs the three points to relaunch itself in the standings. It was Luiz Henrique who, in the 89th minute of the game, scored with a great left-footed shot to give coach Dorival Junior’s team the 2-1 victory. Chewing bitterly, Chile cashed its fourth consecutive defeat in the qualifier for the upcoming World Cup.
The standings see Argentina first with 19 points, won in nine matches played. Behind them is Colombia (16 points), trailed by Uruguay (15 points but one match less). In fourth place is Brazil with 13 points, one more than the Ecuador-Bolivia pair.
