Mission accomplished in Sardinia for Trentino Itas. Losing only at the tie break the return match of the round of 16 (played at PalaPirastu in Cagliari to purposely bring high-level volleyball to one of the regions most passionate about the sport) against the Portuguese Benfica team, the European Champions have in fact detached the pass for the 2025 CEV Cup Play Offs. In the second half of January they will again challenge a Romanian team, the national champions of Corona Brasov.

The promising 3-0 success in the first leg match fifteen days earlier in Lisbon è was made to pay off, quickly closing the discussion regarding the passage to the round. With a convincing start, able to contain the opponents’ outbursts, the Gialloblù flew in just under an hour on the double lead with identical 25-22 in the sign of Michieletto and Rychlicki; what was needed to make the rest of the match irrelevant for qualification purposes, which the two coaches took advantage of to give space to the players who had remained so far on the bench.

Benfica showed that it wanted to end its continental experience with honor this season, going up from 2-0 to 2-2 and then winning a hard-fought tie break, which nevertheless exhilarated the more than 2,200 spectators present this evening in the Sardinian facility who thus were able to enjoy more than two hours of international volleyball of a good level.
Among the gialloblù ranks the best scorers were the Romanian center Bartha (launched in the starting six by Soli and author of 78% in attack, with four walls and an ace) and the opposite Rychlicki (55%) with twelve points, but for the purposes of the passage of the round were also fundamental the cues of Flavio and Michieletto in the first half of the match. In the second half, it was Magalini (7) and especially Gabi Garcia (11 with 60%), already the protagonist in the final of the second set with two consecutive aces at 22-20, who stood out the most.
