Letexier best referee in the world: Donnarumma stunned
Ousted Marciniak, winner of the last two editions
The IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics) has determined that the best referee in the world, for the 2024 season, è was Letexier (129 total points). This is the first award for the French draughtsman who, in 2024, directed the European Championship final between Spain and England.
Letexier ousts Poland’s Marciniak, winner of the last two editions, from the throne. A nice prize for the French refereeing movement, which continues to rise (fourth place in the ranking for the other Frenchman Turpin). Italy defends itself with the third place won by Orsato (74 points), currently the best whistle in Italian soccer (second place in the ranking for Slovenian Vincic with 86 points).
Curiously, Letexier is being awarded at the worst time of his career, at least at the media level. The 35-year-old French whistle-blower è still in the eye of the storm for what happened in the Monaco-PSG match with Singo's intervention on Donnarumma, which cost 17 stitches on the Azzurri's face and was not sanctioned by Letexier even with a yellow card.
Little does it matter, for the IFFHS è Letexier the best referee in the world. A decision that is causing controversy and not a little. The last French national team referee to win the coveted award had been Vautrot, winner in the 1988 and 1989 editions.
