Jannik Sinner has won 33 of his last 34 matches and is currently on a mission to win his second consecutive Wimbledon title. Among the Italian’s strengths are undoubtedly his quick movements on the court and his ability to almost never lose his balance, even on a tricky surface like the grass in London.

Ski champion Lindsey Vonn, who knows the South Tyrolean well—having skied with him often—highlighted to the AP this very ability of Jannik’s, which stems from his background as a skier: “He possesses extraordinary kinesthetic awareness, a fundamental skill in both sports. He is very aware of his body in space and time, so despite his height, he moves fluidly and in perfect sync.”

Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud fully shares Vonn’s opinion: “He’s also strong in his balance and flexible in reaching certain positions. His mobility is impressive; he has good hip movement and knows how to glide into both positions.”

The next hurdle on the South Tyrolean’s path is Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki, ranked No. 151 in the ATP rankings at the start of the tournament, who advanced to the round of 16 after coming through qualifying and pulling off the tournament’s biggest upset by eliminating the young Spaniard Rafael Jodar. Sinner has never faced the 23-year-old from Kawasaki and was cautious during the press conference: “I’ve seen him play. He’s an excellent player, and especially on grass, his ball stays very low, which helps him a lot, and he also seems like a very aggressive player. We’ll see what happens: we’ve never trained together and we’ve never faced each other, so we’ll see. But above all, I’m trying to focus on my side of the court, and I know that right now, that’s the most important thing.”
