The 2026 like the 2025: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz shared the most important tournaments of this first part of the season, leaving only crumbs to their opponents, just like last year. While the Spaniard triumphed at the Australian Open and repeated himself in Doha, the Azzurro scored a resounding double in the United States at Indian Wells and Miami, earning the first Sunshine Double of his career, moreover, without losing a set.

At the microphones of his podcast, former world number one Andy Roddick did not hide a certain annoyance at the supremacy that the two tennis players are imposing on the circuit. “The situation is almost depressing! The winners never change, Carlos wins the majors and Jannik wins everything else. In fact, it’s even more depressing because you wish they would drop in performance at the same time, but it never seems to happen,” the former U.S. tennis player pointed out.

“Jannik suffers a defeat in the Middle East and Carlos takes the lead. Carlos takes a month off during this tour and Jannik is not really tested. It’s tough. We have to realize the greatness that we’re seeing before our eyes.”

“I think Sinner has improved from last year,” Roddick noted. “Whatever they’ve done to fix the game and, you know, they’ve talked about it quite a bit, I fully believe it. He didn’t lose a set at the Sunshine Double. Do you know how hard it is not to lose a set in a month?”

The two may finally cross paths for the first time this year at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, starting in a few days. Sinner’s goal is Alcaraz’s number one spot, but more importantly, to regain the right feeling on clay ahead of Roland Garros, one of his big goals for the season.
