Max Verstappen was featured in an Amsterdam theater with Dutch television station Viaplay, which owns the rights to Formula 1. The Red Bull driver, after his many very direct and unfiltered statements about the current state of F1 and after even hinting at the possibility of retirement in the future, including the fact that he might say enough right at the end of this year if he does not finish the season among the top two in the championship, returned to talk about his situation.

The Dutch driver’s ideas remain the same: “I’m just trying to adapt to what’s there. Even if I retire in a few years, I want F1 to remain a decent sport.” Moreover, he added, “We are in dialogue with F1 and the FIA. The problem is that something is not working in this regulation. They don’t want to admit it publicly, but that’s what these adjustments show.”

If there is still any doubt about when Max Verstappen will retire, there is none on the future of his engineer Gianpiero Lambiase. The announcement of his move to McLaren from 2028 came a few weeks ago, and before accepting the new challenge, he asked the four-time World Champion himself for confirmation: “He informed me of the offer and I told him it would be stupid not to accept it.” The two, over the years, have achieved four consecutive titles together, “We have already achieved everything together and it is a good offer that guarantees you security. He asked me as if he needed permission and I told him to absolutely accept it. He wanted to hear it.”
