Palermo Transfer Market: Emil Audero’s Return Is Being Considered for the Goalkeeper Position

Palermo is forced to return to the transfer market in search of a goalkeeper following Jesse Joronen’s injury in the Coppa Italia match against Lecce. The shoulder injury is expected to keep the Finnish goalkeeper sidelined for about two months, and among the options being considered by the Rosanero, the possibility of Emil Audero’s return is gaining traction.
The Indonesian national team goalkeeper has already played for Palermo recently and, last season, experienced relegation to Serie B with Cremonese. Audero is owned by Como, where, however, he does not appear to be an indispensable player for Cesc Fabregas—a circumstance that could facilitate a potential transfer.
A move to Palermo would therefore mark Audero’s third consecutive loan away from Como: after guarding the Rosanero’s goal in the second half of the 2024–2025 season, the goalkeeper—born in 1997—was loaned to Cremonese, a team newly promoted to Serie A, with whom he subsequently experienced relegation. It has been a nomadic journey for a player who boasts a high-level career, built primarily during his five seasons at Sampdoria, followed by a year at Inter and his move to Como in 2024.
The season at Cremonese was not without its difficult moments for Audero, who in February was the victim of a serious incident during the match against Inter: a firecracker that exploded near him stunned him, forcing the game to be suspended for about three minutes. Despite the physical consequences—ear pain, a stiff back, and a cut on his right leg—the goalkeeper chose to remain on the field, demonstrating great character. Inter was fined 50,000 euros and issued a specific warning.
It should not be forgotten that Torino had also shown interest in Audero in the past; last spring, they had included him on their list of players being monitored to bolster their goalkeeping roster. The completion of the deal with Palermo would therefore rule out Torino, should they still be in search of a goalkeeper. For Palermo, on the other hand, Audero’s familiarity with the environment and tactical setup of the Sicilian team represents a significant added value in the overall assessment of the deal.
