Dinamo Sassari’s big market regret

In Dinamo Sassari’s house, bitterness over a season finale that will most likely lead to painful relegation there is not even time to return to the market. “The last good opportunity was lost when former Cappelletti was freed from the excluded Trapani but Banco di Sardegna did not sign him, having him taken away by Treviso, which thanks also to the play’s grit crowned a comeback that seemed impossible two months ago,” reads the Unione Sarda, a media always well informed about the situations occurring in the most important basketball club on the island.

Cappelletti, born in 1995, is an old acquaintance of the Sardinian square: in his career he has already worn the jersey of Banco di Sardegna, before moving to Trapani and then, this season, to Treviso. With the Veneti, the point guard openly declared that he signed “because I believed in salvation,” and his contribution proved decisive in keeping biancoblu hopes alive. It was precisely his experience in Serie A2 with Udine – where he was elected MVP in the 2021-2022 season – that had made him an ideal profile to fight in the rough waters of the relegation zone.

The standings situation for Sassari is currently dramatic. The Sardinians, stopped at 14 points like Treviso, have only two games left to play – at home against Virtus Bologna on May 3 and away at Brescia on May 10 – and are at a disadvantage in the direct clashes with the Veneti, who instead can still count on three games left. A prohibitive schedule, against two of the strongest teams in the league, that leaves very little room for optimism.

Making the atmosphere in Dinamo’s house even heavier was the clear defeat at home against Reyer Venezia, which imposed itself at PalaSerradimigni with the result of 79-98. An opaque performance that prompted coach Veljko Mrsic to harsh words towards his own: “Seeing the performance against Venice, but also which will be Sassari’s next two opponents, surely the confidence cannot be maximum. We cannot continue like this. Something must be changed, because losing can be done but playing so scared cannot.” The Croatian coach pointed his finger in particular at point guard management and defensive attitude, pointing to Ceron as the only player to have offered a level of energy adequate to the importance of the stakes.
