Played in Slovakia, Finland and Romania, the guard pitched to Dinamo Sassari

While trying to put a very painful relegation behind them and still waiting for the official announcement of the new coach, with the track that led to Nicola Brienza now definitively dashed, the first profiles followed by Dinamo Sassari to reinforce the roster in view of the season that fans hope will be a revival are beginning to emerge.
Among the players approached by the Sardinian club is Tavon King, a 1997 guard who just returned from a season in Romania with CSU Sibiu. After experiences in Slovakia, Finland and Israel with Ironi Kiryat Ata, the American player ended the last championship with averages of 12.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
The Brienza track closed for good with the Brianza coach’s officialization at Valtur Brindisi on Wednesday, May 27. The coach, who had led Pistoia and Cantù from A2 to Serie A in 2023 and 2025, respectively, signed with the Apulian club, thus leaving Dinamo looking for another profile for its bench. Among the names circulated in recent weeks in the Biancoblù household is that of Pino Sacripanti, a reliable coach who has written important pages precisely in Cantù, but who has just returned from a not very fruitful experience on the bench of Pistoia. Another candidate that has emerged is Luca Vitali, a former national team long player with 149 appearances in the Italian national team before retiring in 2024, who last season served as Pierluigi Brotto’s assistant at Vanoli Cremona.
On the player market front, in addition to King, the name bouncing around with some insistence is that of Grant Basile, a naturalized Italian American forward who has just come back from a consensual separation with Pallacanestro Cantù. The player, who had made a decisive contribution to promotion to Serie A with the Brianzoli in the 2024-25 season, ended last year with averages of 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16.2 minutes. Currently committed to Puerto Rico with the Piratas de Quebradillas — where last season he impressed in the playoffs with 22.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in six games — Basile is considered an ideal profile for the cadetteria and on him would be, in addition to Sassari, Fortitudo Bologna, Brindisi, Pesaro and Verona.
In the background, meanwhile, the question of possible repechage to Serie A also remains open. According to reports in La Nuova Sardegna, the island club would apply to rejoin the top division if places become available, a scenario linked in particular to the situation of Trieste. Sassari, by virtue of its recent history and corporate stability, would be among the main candidates to benefit from one of these slots, although at the moment there is no officialdom and everything will depend on corporate and federal decisions that will have to be clarified in the coming weeks.
