Meo Sacchetti has announced his farewell to basketball: the legendary 72-year-old coach, who was a coach in Montecatini last season, in a statement made official the end of his experience with Fabo Herons final retirement to basketball.

“Here in Montecatini I met high-level people, full of enthusiasm and passion – said Sacchetti – . I did not expect such warmth: never lose these characteristics, I recommend. I would have liked to convey even more, but I will still carry this experience in my heart. The affection we received from the audience gave us an extraordinary boost in the finale.”

“We could not take leave with a home loss, it was beautiful the reaction in Game 4. The following Game 5 in Caserta was my last game with basketball. I wish you all the best: may the future give this club and this square all the satisfaction you deserve,” the coach concluded.

In his more than 30-year career on the sidelines, Sacchetti has coached Auxilium Torino, Asti, Celana Bergamo, Fabriano, Castelletto Ticino, Orlandina, Udine, Dinamo Sassari, Brindisi, Vanoli Cremona, Fortitudo Bologna, Cantù and Pesaro, as well as the Italian national team for five years.

A very intense career, in which he won one Serie A and one A2 championship with Sassari, three Coppa Italia (two with Sassari, one with Cremona), one Supercoppa Italia with Sassari. He was twice named best coach in Serie A. Under his leadership Italy returned to the Olympic tournament after several editions of absence.
